I'd love to hear your thoughts about this guy's situation

Hey Bryan,
While not suprising at all I find it very sad. The pain and that he and his family must feel is a terrible thing. One thing that concerns me a little bit is his inability to offer himself any grace in his resignation letter. But I guess it may be too early for that for him to process. But I think evangelicals need to not distance themselves from haggard but just the opposite. They need to draw to Haggard and offer him the love and grace that he resisted in his sin. Let's hope we can do that, right?

Right away it made me think of the song "What If I Stumble" by DC Talk. A quote at the beginning of the song says, "The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians, who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, then walk out the door and deny him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable." The song is deeper than that, though, and shows that God's love will always be there.

I think his situation is an unfortunate one. No one is perfect and we all make mistakes and sin. His life, however, is in the spotlight and his situation is compounded by the fact that he is in such a high position and is, in some regards, a role model. It is the same as a pop singer who knows young teens will be watching and idolizing her; although she will make mistakes too, she needs to realize that her mistakes affect a lot more people.

On the flip side, those Christians who disregard him or exile him are also promoting a lifestyle that doesn't represent what they claim. Christians need to be forgiving and help those who need it the most.
