Begin Anew

Ok, so it's been some time since my last post and even longer since I have posted on something with substance. I guess you could say I have been on a sabbatical, which I must say I really needed. But I am now ready to knock the dust off the keyboard and begin anew.

So I promised to talk about "emotional" faith, and so I guess I will scratch the surface on this one and hope for a thorough dialogue to flesh out my thoughts more. Back in the fall I reviewed a student's application and essay and he made clear his distain for "emotional" faith and his ascertion that he will absolutely does not have one. I found this particularly interesting. Maybe I am way off in understanding what he means by "emotional", but the Bible that I read that was breathed by the One True Living God is overflowing with emotion. Lest we forget David dancing at the alter, Christ "being in anguish" on the Mount of Olives, and in John 11:35 simply "Jesus wept." As important as any of these examples are the examples from our own lives which we live by virtue in an emotional state. It seems to me that the less emotional your faith (and life) becomes the less real it can be. Now, I understand the theological position that this student is coming from, as he is really taking a stance against the Pentacostal movements and churches that dance, speak in tounges, and raise hands in worship. As I said, I can only right now scratch the surface on this topic. Let me know what your thoughts are.
